Ingrid Capacity

Entity Updated 2026-10-07

A Stockholm-founded (2022) battery-storage developer-operator that grew to a 211 MW/211 MWh southern-Sweden portfolio in under a year and, by April 2026, confirmed two projects that at their permitted sizes take it to ~1.05 GWh (a sum of figures in Ingrid's April and September 2026 releases, not a figure either release states) — closer in business model to an independent power producer than to a household-aggregation platform like CheckWatt.

Sweden's Minister for Climate and the Environment personally inaugurated its Southern Sweden portfolio, a level of government visibility unusual for a private BSP — one signal, alongside its European expansion into Finland, Germany, and France, that Swedish grid-scale battery flexibility is becoming a mainstream infrastructure category rather than a niche pilot activity.

Founded — 2022, StockholmSouthern Sweden portfolio — 14 sites, 211 MW/211 MWh (largest unified BESS portfolio in the Nordics, with BW ESS)Confirmed pipeline (April 2026, updated Sep 2026) — Vaggeryd (100 MW/200 MWh, permitted; 400 MWh redesign awaiting a new permit) + Horsaryd (100 MW/200 MWh), together ~1.05 GWh with the ~650 MWh portfolio, excluding Pedersöre (90 MWh)

Ingrid Capacity AB is a Stockholm-headquartered battery-storage developer and asset operator, founded in 2022. Unlike CheckWatt or Flower‘s residential/DER aggregation lines, Ingrid’s core model is closer to an independent power producer (IPP): it develops, owns, and trades/dispatches the grid-scale batteries in its own portfolio, rather than aggregating third-party households’ or businesses’ assets.

Southern Sweden portfolio

Ingrid’s flagship portfolio — 14 battery sites, 211 MW/211 MWh — was built and commissioned in under a year from financial investment decision, developed jointly with partner BW ESS. It is described as the largest unified battery storage portfolio in the Nordics. Sweden’s Minister for Climate and the Environment personally inaugurated the portfolio — a level of government-level visibility not otherwise seen among the wiki’s aggregator/BSP entities, and a signal of the sector’s growing political profile. Expansion pipeline — ~1.05 GWh at permitted sizes (sum of release figures)

As of April 2026, Ingrid confirmed two further large-scale projects that roughly double its Swedish footprint:

ProjectCapacityNotes
Vaggeryd (Småland, SE3)100 MW/200 MWhPermitted at 200 MWh (building permit with legal force); financed through the Mirova partnership (Sep 2026); ready to build expected 2027. A 400 MWh (4-hour) redesign announced in April 2026, which would make it Sweden’s largest battery system, awaits a new permit (Ingrid, 2026-04-17; Ingrid, 2026-09-23)
Horsaryd (Blekinge)100 MW/200 MWhIn design; a 2-hour system strengthening SE4 (per Ingrid’s April 2026 press release; that release’s “Sweden’s largest” and “first large-scale four-hour system” descriptors refer to the 400 MWh Vaggeryd design, not Horsaryd)

At their permitted sizes (200 MWh each) these take Ingrid’s Nordic battery portfolio from ~650 MWh to ~1.05 GWh (650 + 200 + 200 MWh; Pedersöre’s 90 MWh in Finland is not included). Vaggeryd is expected to reach ready-to-build status in 2027 (Sep 2026 release); for Horsaryd, the April 2026 release gave construction from as early as 2026 and full operation in 2028. Mirova partnership (23 Sep 2026): Mirova (Natixis IM affiliate) invests €65 million in two Ingrid projects totalling 145 MW/290 MWh: Pedersöre, Finland (45 MW/90 MWh, ready to build) and Vaggeryd, Sweden (100 MW/200 MWh, SE3, ready-to-build expected 2027). Ingrid develops, operates and optimises both; Ingrid states 950 MWh under management with these assets. The release gives Vaggeryd at its permitted 200 MWh; the 400 MWh redesign still needs a new permit (see table). (Ingrid press release, 2026-09-23)

European expansion

Ingrid has extended beyond Sweden into Finland, Germany, and France:

  • A 200 MW German partnership was announced in November 2025
  • A 70 MW/140 MWh Finnish system with SEB
  • Company-stated target: 8 GW under management across Europe by 2030

BSP status and services

Ingrid Capacity is BSP-registered with Svenska kraftnät — one of six aggregator/flexibility-specialist BSPs named in the March 2026 Svk register, alongside Flower, Entelios, Capalo AI, Mind Energy, and Vimab BESS. (Source - Svk Leverantörer av Balanstjänster 2026)

Ingrid describes its offering as combining forecasting, BRP & BSP services, multi-market trading, and battery flexibility. The “BRP & BSP” framing suggests Ingrid may hold or be pursuing full Balance Responsible Party status itself — as Flower has held in Sweden since June 2024 — rather than routing through a third-party BRP intermediary, but this isn’t confirmed by a primary Svk filing in the sources read so far. See BSP and BRP Roles for what BRP status would mean for Ingrid’s market access.

Relationship to wiki topics

  • Aggregation — one of six named aggregator/flexibility-specialist BSPs in the March 2026 Svk register; IPP-style business model distinct from portfolio aggregation
  • Flower — closest wiki comparator: both are battery developer-operators expanding internationally with European BESS pipelines, but Flower’s BRP status is confirmed and Ingrid’s is not
  • CheckWatt — contrast case: CheckWatt aggregates 15,000+ third-party home batteries; Ingrid develops and owns its own grid-scale sites
  • Energy Storage — a significant Swedish grid-scale BESS developer, alongside Flower and Ellevio Energy Solutions
  • BSP and BRP Roles — BSP-registered since at least March 2026; BRP status unconfirmed
  • Svenska kraftnät — BSP registrant

Data gaps

  • Whether Ingrid Capacity aggregates any third-party assets, or exclusively trades its own developed/owned battery portfolio
  • Whether Ingrid Capacity holds (or is pursuing) full BRP status in Sweden, as Flower does — its own service description mentions “BRP & BSP” but no primary Svk filing confirms BRP approval
  • Ingrid Capacity’s specific market participation — which balancing products (FCR/aFRR/mFRR) or local flexibility markets it trades into, and confirmed Swedish revenue/performance data (Flower publishes monthly trading performance; no equivalent found for Ingrid)
