Short slide deck in English from Energicentrum Gotland, hosted on the Clean Energy for EU Islands site, on dynamic pricing, smart metering and a pilot of location- and time-specific capacity tariffs. The presenter’s name comes from the file name; the slides do not carry an author line.
Content
- Gotland. About 1 TWh a year; about half from own production (180 MW wind, 40 MW solar), half via the mainland connection. Consumption is about a third each Visby, Heidelberg Cement and the rest. The island depends on the mainland for frequency control, which the slides say makes battery investment too costly, and limits new wind and solar to 65 MW additional installation. A new interconnection of 2 × 220 kV AC (about EUR 1 billion) is planned for 2030, with 235 MW wind and 200 MW solar by 2035 and 500 MW each by 2040; Heidelberg Cement’s consumption could reach 1.5 TWh with carbon capture, with 2.5 TWh transmittable in 2030.
- Approach. Contrasts traditional reinforcement (size for peak load plus margin) with grid optimisation: tariffs, flexibility markets and conditional agreements are listed as the solutions. Capacity maps are work in progress.
- Smart meters. All customers by 1 January 2025, 15-minute interval, with a connection port for external equipment giving real-time data every 10 seconds, and per-phase voltage, current and active/reactive energy and power for consumption and production. Gotland also has meters in secondary substations, and regional substations within a few years.
- Tariff pilot (Kräklingbo, east Gotland). A high-resolution capacity-based approach for about 1,700 customers across 150 secondary substations, with a unique price for each station and 30-minute time resolution, so customers pay for the strain they cause where and when it happens. Automated flexible resources raise or lower cost depending on the control signal. The slides contain no results; the pilot’s final report is on Source - Energicentrum Gotland Tariff 2.0 Slutrapport (2026).
Relevance
Shows the technical hook for control at the connection point (the meter’s real-time port) and a Swedish pilot of location-specific capacity prices. See Power Tariffs and Home Batteries, Island Operation and Gotland Island Operation — Total Defence Planning. It relates to Energiforsk’s UniFlex study, which builds on the same capacity-based method (Source - Energiforsk 2026-1193 Unison Prissignal Timeffektavgift (2026)).
