Summary
Svk published a proposal for revised BRP/BSP conditions in spring 2026, which was opened for market consultation. The changes are required before Nordic connection to the European mFRR energy exchange platform MARI, planned for Q1 2027. After reviewing consultation responses, Svk determined additional analysis time is needed and will submit revised conditions to Ei (Energimarknadsinspektionen) during summer 2026; Ei will then adjudicate the proposal.
Three areas of change:
- Obalansprissättning (imbalance pricing) — settlement methodology changes for the new European activation context
- Regler för budgivning (bidding rules) — adjustments for MARI’s cross-European competitive merit-order dispatch
- Prissättning av balansenergipris (balancing energy price settings) — methodology update
Svk will continue structured dialogue with market participants during the analysis phase.
PICASSO — parallel process
In connection with the planned PICASSO connection (aFRR energy exchange platform), further imbalance pricing changes will follow. Svk plans to publish a new consultation on PICASSO-related imbalance pricing changes in autumn 2026. After PICASSO connection, the balanskraftspris (imbalance price) will incorporate both aFRR and mFRR energy activations, replacing the current mFRR-only basis.
Reference group on imbalance pricing
Svk is forming a standing referensgrupp (reference group) for continuous dialogue on imbalance pricing matters. Open call for participation issued alongside this update.
