Svk‘s published semantic web framework — two RDF ontologies that give electricity-market data machine-readable, reusable definitions. The genuinely novel item on Svk’s new open-data portal: a data-standards artifact rather than a report or a data feed.
What it is
- BASE — generella begrepp: general / shared concepts and data structures used across Svk’s data.
- EMDO — Electricity Market Data Ontology — the domain vocabulary for electricity-market data. Per the dataset description it models: reserve products and directions, bidding zones and interconnectors, production types and categories, auction rounds, forecast horizons, units of measure, country codes, and trade-action directions.
Stated purpose: uniform, machine-readable descriptions with “tydliga begrepp för enkel tolkning och återanvändning” (clear concepts for easy interpretation and reuse). The open datasets on the same portal (mFRR/aFRR capacity markets, day-ahead prices — see Source - Svk Öppna Data (data.svk.se)) are described with these vocabularies, i.e. EMDO is the semantic layer beneath Svk’s open market data.
Why it matters for the wiki
- It is a concrete instance of the data-standards layer that the NC DR FIS presupposes — FIS data must be exportable in structured, machine-readable form under a register-once principle, and the DHV will have to commit to a market-data model. EMDO is Svk already publishing a machine-readable market-data vocabulary.
- It sits in the same family as the IEC CIM (Common Information Model) and ENTSO-E transparency data models, but is narrower (market data) and Svk-authored.
- It is distinct from the device-communication protocols in Flexibility Communication Protocols (OpenADR, S2, OCPP, IEC 61850…): those move signals; EMDO defines what the data means. The closest analogue on that page is the semantic-interoperability thread (S2 / SAREF4ENER).
Key claims
- Svk publishes BASE + EMDO as RDF/Turtle ontologies at data.svk.se.
- EMDO covers reserve products/directions, bidding zones, interconnectors, production types, auction rounds, forecast horizons, units, country codes, trade-action directions.
- Intended for machine-readable, reusable electricity-market data descriptions; underpins the portal’s open datasets.
Data gaps
- EMDO/BASE version, license, and governance — not stated on the dataset page
- Explicit alignment with IEC CIM, ENTSO-E, or EU data standards — not documented
- Whether EMDO is intended to feed the DHV/FIS data model, or remain an open-data publishing vocabulary only
