Title: Flödesbaserad kapacitetsberäkning införs för avbrottsinformationen

Publisher: Svenska kraftnät (news item; coordinated with the Nordic Regional Coordination Centre, NRCC)

Language: Swedish

Svk’s announcement that the flow-based capacity calculation method is now applied to outage information on NUCS (Nordic Unavailability Collection System), with first publications on 24–25 September 2026. It is a TSO news item: statements about increased capacity and transparency are the TSOs’ own, and no figures are given.

What it says

  • Start. From 24–25 September 2026 the method is implemented for outage information on NUCS, giving more transparency on how outages affect domains and import and export possibilities in the Nordic bidding zones. The flow-based method reflects the physical conditions of the Nordic system and, the note says, available capacity for trading has increased since its introduction (not quantified). Svk’s head of wholesale markets, Mårten Bergman, notes that the flow-based method has been used for the day-ahead market since October 2024 and that using the same method for outage information gives more consistency between time horizons.
  • Who. Implemented jointly by the four Nordic TSOs (Fingrid, Svenska kraftnät, Statnett, Energinet) and coordinated by the Nordic RCC.
  • First publications: trading-capacity estimates for the month ahead (M-1, 24 September 2026) and the week ahead (V-1, 25 September 2026). V-1 gives an updated view for the coming week based on the latest planned outages; M-1 shows how individual outages are expected to affect the period from next month to year-end. Domain impact is published per individual outage; later releases will include combinations of simultaneous outages.
  • Indicative, not exact. The publications are approximate indications of what capacity would look like under the flow-based method, not exact forecasts of what becomes unavailable to the market. Published domains and bidding-zone positions may therefore differ from the day-ahead result.
  • Limits of the first release. Selected network elements and outage types only; some components, for example busbars, are not represented; other factors mean not every outage gets a flow-based impact. Outage periods use the TSOs’ start and stop times, so temporary reconnections (for example nights and weekends) are not shown; in those periods the intact-grid domains from the LTCC process serve as the latest available flow-based capacity. TSO validation of outage domains before publication will be developed further.
  • Alongside existing publications. The existing NTC-based outage publications on NUCS remain available in parallel; the flow-based ones complement rather than replace them. Later releases will widen scope, coverage, usefulness and detail, based on experience and stakeholder feedback.
