Svk Obalanspris Manuella Justeringar Upphör (2026)

Source Updated 2026-06-28 Cited by 4 pages

Svenska kraftnät news (2026-06-24): Svenska kraftnät upphör med manuella prisjusteringar av obalanspriset — Svk will stop the weekly manual ex-post corrections of the published imbalance price (obalanspris) now that the balancing market has stabilised. Spokesperson: Anna Jäderström, sektionschef Balansmarknader.

Key claims

  • Manual obalanspris adjustments end after 28 June 2026. The last day analysed under the established principles is 28 June 2026; that analysis is presented 2 July 2026. Future corrections will be avoided “as far as possible” but not fully excluded (e.g. major IT disturbances producing erroneous prices).
  • Why the corrections existed: after the March 2025 balancing changes — flow-based capacity allocation (grid more often fully used), automated balancing-energy activation, and 15-minute settlement (vs 60) — mFRR prices and therefore the obalanspris rose sharply and became highly volatile, especially initially. The obalanspris recovers the cost of the balancing energy Svk activates in real time, borne by the BRPs that caused the imbalance. The volatility left actors with limited ability to forecast prices and manage risk, so Svk judged it justified to manually adjust some prices ex post per published principles.
  • Why they can stop now: balancing-market supply has increased, the market has stabilised, the automated processes and market design have been improved stepwise (nationally and Nordically), and finally elastisk efterfrågan has been implemented in the Nordic budväljare.
  • Scale of the episode: first manual adjustment for 25 April 2025; through 24 June 2026, prices were adjusted for 112 quarters in total. Adjustments sometimes covered all elområden, sometimes only one or two; majority in southern Sweden. Per-zone counts: SE4 112, SE3 102, SE1 79, SE2 78.
  • Svk continues to prioritise mFRR prequalification applications until 31 December 2026 and still sees a continued need for more balancing resources.
