Energinet aFRR Capacity Market Data (2026)

Source Updated 2026-10-04 Cited by 6 pages

Energinet’s open Energi Data Service dataset AfrrReservesNordic: hourly results of the common Nordic aFRR capacity market for every participating price area, Swedish zones included. Fetched with curl on 2026-10-02 (public API, no key, requests spaced 3 s apart because the API rate-limits). It fills the gap left by Svk’s own aFRR export: the Swedish zone prices published in Svk’s monthly reports are reproduced exactly by this dataset (Source - Svk Mimer Reserve Price Exports (2026) explains why Svk’s Mimer and data-portal aFRR exports are not).

What the dataset contains

  • Hourly rows per price area (SE1–SE4, FI, DK1, DK2, NO1–NO5) with local demand and procured volume (MW) and the marginal price (EUR/MW) for up and down regulation. The fetched files hold 386,101 rows from 2022-12-08 to 2026-10-03.
  • Updated daily. DK1 is in the data from 2 October 2024 (a DK1 capacity market was introduced that day); the demand columns start on 21 August 2025.
  • Energinet’s note: demand and procured volume need not match, because part of a zone’s demand can be covered by other TSOs and its procured volume can serve other TSOs, which the market platform’s algorithm decides; the procured-volume figure includes cross-border allocation.
  • The only incomplete month in the fetched data is October 2024 for DK1 (721 hours; the market started on 2 October).

Check against Svk’s reports

  • The simple mean of the hourly Swedish zone price, grouped by Swedish local time, reproduces all 48 zone-direction figures in Svk’s March–August 2026 reports within 0.07 EUR/MW (four zones, up and down, six months).
  • Svk’s own monthly aFRR reports for 2025 (Source - Svk Månadsrapporter aFRR 2025) state that their data basis is Energinet, NUCS and Nord Pool, and the zone means they state for March–May and September–December agree with this dataset (44 zone-month values within 0.22 EUR/MW; one apparent typo in Svk’s March report for SE4 aFRR down, 27.4 against 29.4 here).
  • Svk’s January–July comparison for the Swedish aFRR capacity market (up from 22 to 7.7 EUR/MW, down from 22 to 14) is reproduced by the simple mean across the four zones and all hours: 22.0 to 7.8 up and 22.0 to 14.3 down.
  • The Swedish prices are therefore Svk-consistent. The prices do not depend on whether Swedish bidders were procured in the hour, which is why they exist in hours where Svk’s own exports show none.

What the series show

Annual means of the monthly means, EUR/MW per hour, up / down, wiki arithmetic (2026 is January–August):

NO518.8 / 15.414.9 / 8.69.5 / 8.26.7 / 6.3

Up prices fall in every zone. In 2023 all four Swedish zones sat at 23–24 up and 35–37 down, the same level as DK2; they have separated since. NO2–NO4 are also in the dataset.

Reading the numbers with care

  • A simple mean of hourly prices, not volume-weighted, which is how Svk’s reports are built; the procured-volume columns are not used.
  • The dataset gives market results; whether a given battery earned the price depends on being procured, and Swedish bidders met only a small part of Sweden’s aFRR-up requirement in some periods (7.5% in December 2025, per Balancing Markets), so they can earn nothing in an hour in which the zone price is positive.
